Little Miss Extracurricular

They say it's never too late to start something... So I'm picking my penultimate term at medical school to start really getting involved in things that will not only sound impressive, but that I really think I'll enjoy.

I'm writing an article for Fastbleep, an amazing new resource for notes for medical students. I'm excited because not only is it a chance to help add to a brilliant website, but it's going to be a great way for me to revise a topic.

As well as writing some notes for a website I'm also helping teach some med students face to face. It's nothing too taxing... I'm going to be helping teach some OSCE stations to 3rd years. Again a chance for me to give something back while giving myself a chance to revise.

To top it all off I'm also taking part in a day at our new simulation suite teaching school kids some healthcare skills and getting them interested in careers within the NHS.

In fact just reading all this bits gets me excited, but also exhausted. It feels kind of nice to be giving something back... maybe I'll do it more often.

Fastbleep looks good, I wait with anticipation for it to actually have some content on it. Thanks for sharing :) I'm also pleased to see that there's still time for extra bits later on in the course. I'm trying* to do a load of bits now, but some days I just don't have the oomph. Glad to see it's not imperative. Happy almost friday.

Hi - really interested in the skills sessions you were talking about for school kids. We're in the process of setting up the Fastbleep Foundation for widening participation in medicine in the North West. Would you be able to say what you did and what you think works well please? I know the scheme co-ordinators would welcome any advice.

Also, thanks for the mention of Fastbleep - click throughs put you ahead of google.co.uk for last week!

Content submission is building some momentum now, aware there is a lot of fruitless clicking at the moment.

Just tweeted you James. Will write about the schools skills session tomorrow after it happens. I'll get in touch to drop you an email with more detail and the timetable we used etc.

It's also going to be in the local paper, which is exciting.

Glad my mention of fastbleep sent you more hits than Google. It's a great resource and will only get better the more people that use it!
