On Call

Today I shadowed my first on call I actually enjoyed.

It was gynae.

It surprised me how many people come into A&E with gynae complaints. There's also a real variety in what's causing the complaints.

I just wish my rotation had the opportunity to get more obs and gynae clinical experience, as our opportunities are quite limited.

In a few weeks time (I can't remember the exact date), I'm being shipped off to a district general hospital for 3 weeks to get the chance to really immerse myself in obs and gynae. Although I'll miss the ferrets, and probably get pretty tired from the hard work, I'm really looking forward to it.

This could be a possible career choice for the future.

On the subject of the future I watched relocation down under. Wow. I really like the look of Australia (and not just because I'm addicted to neighbours). Does anyone know what the situation is like for doctors wanting to immigrate over there? How different is the training/hours?

It seems that your choice of specialization is increasing. I hope you do indeed enjoy your three weeks when you are "shipped off" and I am sure that the ferrets will be glad to see you when you get home again.

Thanks for the crossed fingers and toes. I actually think that I have a chance and this really would be good for me although it may cut down our opportunities for afternoon tea and a chat.

Dunno about the training specifically but it might be hard to get a big city job. You might get shipped off to some boring rural town. Is your to-be-hubby keen on migrating?

H2B is the one who suggested moving over there. It's his dream.

From what i have heard the hours are better over our way. Flick me your email address and I can send you the spiel (not sponsored by the Australian Medical college) that I sent to a few other bloggers who asked about it :-)
